OpenRoad is currently collaborating with the BC Liquor Distribution Board to bring you the new BC Liquor Store Android app, and we need your help!
Participants must have been to a BC Liquor Store in the past 30 days and be an android user (preferably a regular user of mobile apps).
During the session, participants will be asked to complete a set of tasks on the app and then asked some follow up questions. These are facilitated sessions that will be observed and video taped (for design use only). The session will be on Thursday, Sept 13, 2012 in Vancouver Downtown and will be 1 hour long. Your time is much appreciated and will be compensated $50.

Although this event is catered to science students in general, it would be extremely incorrect to say that this isn’t relevant to computer science students! Computer science is present in almost all branches of science and so, whatever your reason, this would be a good event to go to.
Natali Altshuler, former CS student from Electronic Arts will be there! Don’t miss the free advice and food!
CHOOSE FROM A SERIES OF ONE-HOUR PANEL DISCUSSIONS:
- biotechology
- health care
- environment
- alternative medicine
- the business of science
Pop and pizza provided for registered students - register now! Go to http://students.ubc.ca/success/careers.cfm, scroll down, and register. There’s 696 spots available as I write this. Last year’s event was really popular so sign up early!

By now, the initial excitement over the release of the marks (too bad they fixed that SSC bug this year) should have died down and the rigours of the holiday season should be taking over. Whether you are reading this from abroad (lucky you) or at home, this time of the year is a great time to get back in touch with friends and family, and of course, do all those things that you didn’t have time to do during the year! Look at the numerous companies such as Google, IBM and Microsoft that are beginning to hire for those coveted summer internships, or express yourself in some of the competitions that are coming up fast, like the EA Tankwars Competition or Microsoft’s Imagine Cup. So, there’s lots to do even if you’re not a keener as someone explained to me the other day.
As always, we encourage you, during this bit of downtime, to give us suggestions as to what directions you would like to see Your Student Society take in the forums (editor’s note: now closed). And here’s a sneak preview at a huge event that’s coming up - the UBC Tech Career Fair 2005 which will be jointly organized with the UBC Eng/Phys and IEEE. We’ll do a big announcement around the start of term in a week or two.
From all of us at the Computer Science Students’ Society, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
